Homemade Cards: the Freshness of Foliage

It’s already the fifth day of spring! Let's maintain spring atmosphere in our blog, too! We're presenting you one more style of cards within the framework of our project "Homemade Cards and Gifts – Interesting Ideas Every Day!"

Unique Homemade Cards

The central element of this card is a skeletonized leaf. Do not be scared by the name. Such leaves are called so in flower shops (at least in Russia).

Homemade Cards: the Freshness of Foliage

What will you need:

  • double-sided construction paper of pale orange colour – for the card itself;
  • red foil-coated paper;
  • rice paper with some nice pattern of some red tint;
  • yellow or orange skeletonized leaf (sold in flower shops);
  • glue, a pencil, a ruler, scissors.

How to make the card?

  • in the rice paper, make a "hole" a little bit smaller than the leaf;
  • glue a square made of the foil-coated paper to the light-orange construction paper;
  • the rice paper (with the hole) should be glued to the card next;
  • put some glue on the edges of the leaf and press the leaf to the rice paper.

  • cut out two small squares from the foil-coated paper – for the corners of the card .

Homemade Gifts

The elements of the card are reflected in today's gift.

To decorate a cup (or any other glass container) with leaves you will need: a cup, glue for porcelain, skeletonized leaves, a brush, some solvent and cotton swabs.
How to make the cup:

  • First of all, remove fat from the surface of the cup – with some solvent (for example, with vanish remover);
  • pour glue for porcelain in some small container (do not use it right from the jar as otherwise too much of it will be used);
  • put the first leaf on the cup and apply some glue for porcelain onto it with a brush (do not be afraid to stain the cup with glue (at the edges of the leaf) – the glue can be easily removed afterwards);
  • you can take away some of the extra glue right at the moment- with a cotton swab. Or wait until it is dried and then take it away with a knife.
  • now let's work with the twig of the leaf: put extra glue under it and then stick it to the cup with a piece of modeling clay (try to use such modeling clay or plasticine which is of the same colour as the leaf);
  • wait until the glue dries out;
  • scrape off the glue which has come out beyond the leaf with a knife;
  • after the glue has dried out, take the modeling clay away but if some part of the twig is still sticking out, remove it;
  • put the cup into the cold oven, turn on the fire on minimum and keep the cup in the oven for about 15 minutes. In 15 mins do not take it from the oven right away – wait until the oven cools down.

You can wash the cup but do not soak and rub it.
